Austin Multi-Sport Youth Triathlon Program Overview

The Youth Tri Training program is focused on developing technique and endurance for both running and cycling. The run training will consist of a mix of drills, cardio, intervals, and technical instruction.

The biking consists of a warm up, intervals, endurance, and skills. A few of the skills practiced are cadence, braking, transitions, position, shifting, seated, and standing spinning. The athletes may also use stationary resistance trainers to practice the skills.

Annual Schedule

SPRING: March, April and May. The Kids "Team" meets 2 days per week Wednesday and Sunday. Optional triathlon events monthly.

SUMMER: 12 Weeks June, July, and August. The Kids "Team" meets 2 days per week Wednesday and Sunday. Optional competive events monthly.

FALL: 10 Weeks, September, October, November.

WINTER: 7 Weeks, the youth group meets November and December to maintain biking and running fitness and skills.

EARLY SPRING: 6 Weeks during January and February self paced training

Spring 2016 Details

DATES: Join at anytime, then each Sunday, season runs March through August, contact Coach Tom.

TIME: Club: Meets Sunday
4:00 pm to 5:30pm, Wednesdays 5:45pm to 7:00pm

TEAM 9 & under: Developing skills running and cycling skills and optional monthly competition.

TEAM 10 & up: Endurance training and competitive events.

AGES: Age 6 to High School, Beginner to Intermediate Levels

WHERE: Pflugerville, Round Rock, at the Austin Multi-Sport Shop, Brushy Creek Trail, and other Round Rock and Pflugerville area parks.

REGISTRATION:   Call or stop by the store for more details, flyers and details are up front in the store.

COST: $90 per month for twice a week, $60 per month for 1 day per week.  Sibling discount 50% off monthly for next sibling.

Spring Goal: Develop running and biking technique and gain general fitness. Prepare athletes for triathlon season.


What Bike should my child use for training?
For starters bring what you have or use already. Many kids use standard single speed BMX style bikes.

What should they wear for running?
Shorts and t-shirt for warmer weather, shoes should be flexible for athletic activities. We can make recommendations as skill levels change.

What is "Club" versus "Team" training? 
The "Club" training is once a week and design for developing athletes that are building their skills and strength. The "Team" Training is structured training to build strength and endurance for competitive triathlon. Team members are typically racing 1 to 2 times per month in USAT events.
